NVIDIA's GTX 1650 Super card launched in November 2019 and brought a significant upgrade over the regular GTX 1650. It's also built on the Turing architecture, but uses a trimmed-down version of the GTX 1660 series GPU die, increasing the number of CUDA cores from the regular GTX 1650 (896) to 1280—a roughly 43% increase.
Additionally, this card uses faster GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR5, which also provides a significant boost in memory bandwidth. This is why the GTX 1650 Super was labeled the "best budget 1080p gaming card" by tech reviewers at launch—it had one of the best 1080p performance-to-price ratios at the time, at under $200.
Performance and Architecture
The GTX 1650 Super features 1280 CUDA Cores. The base clock is around 1530 MHz and the boost clock reaches 1725-1740 MHz, while factory-overclocked variants (such as the ASUS TUF Gaming OC, MSI Gaming X) can even reach 1755-1800 MHz.
Support for DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12_1), Shader Model 6.5, OpenGL 4.6, and Vulkan makes this card well-compatible with modern gaming technology. Features like NVIDIA G-Sync, Adaptive Vertical Sync, and driver and game settings optimization via GeForce Experience are also included.
Memory and memory bandwidth
This card features 4GB of GDDR6 video memory, running at 12 Gbps over a 128-bit memory interface. This provides memory bandwidth of up to 192 GB/s, which is 50% more than the regular GTX 1650 (128 GB/s, GDDR5). This improved bandwidth gives this card a significant advantage in texture-heavy and high-resolution games.
Display Output and Connectivity
The GTX 1650 Super features 3x DisplayPort 1.4a and 1x HDMI 2.0b outputs, supporting resolutions up to 4K@60Hz (some compact variants also offer DVI-D). The PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface makes this card easily compatible with any modern motherboard. SLI/NVLink support is not available.
Cooling and Build
The card comes in a dual-slot design and measures between 172mm and 229mm in length depending on the model, with some compact variants like the Ventus XS also available for SFF builds. Cooling is handled by single-fan or dual-fan designs (e.g. Gigabyte OC 90mm Blade Fan, MSI Gaming X), keeping the card silent and cool under light to medium gaming loads.
Things to keep in mind during installation
Ensure the card is seated correctly in its PCIe x16 slot and the 6-pin power connector is connected. The recommended PSU is 350W. Install GeForce Experience and download the latest Game Ready drivers, as this card is still included in NVIDIA's current driver support.
Who is this graphics card for?
The GTX 1650 Super is an excellent choice for users looking for the best 1080p gaming performance on a budget. More CUDA cores and faster GDDR6 memory make it a much better value than the regular GTX 1650. This card remains a strong performer for tasks like esports titles, medium-high setting AAA games, and video editing.
