NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti 8GB Graphics Card (Pre Owned)

NVIDIA's GTX 1070 Ti card launched in November 2017 and was specifically positioned as a counter to AMD's Vega 56. This card is built on the same GP104-300 chip as the GTX 1080 (GP104-400) and GTX 1070 (GP104-200), but here the chip is positioned in between the two—more CUDA cores than the GTX 1070 (1920 cores), but fewer than the GTX 1080 (2560 cores).

Interestingly, the GTX 1070 Ti uses the same 256-bit memory bus as the GTX 1080, just with GDDR5 memory (instead of the GTX 1080's GDDR5X). This is why this card's performance in real-world gaming tests falls right between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, though it lags slightly behind the GTX 1070 and comes close to the GTX 1080 in terms of power efficiency.

Performance and Architecture

The GTX 1070 Ti features 2432 CUDA Cores (19 Streaming Multiprocessors). The base clock is around 1607 MHz and the boost clock reaches 1683 MHz (reference specification), while factory-overclocked variants (such as the Gigabyte Gaming OC) can reach up to 1721 MHz. This card is built on a 16nm FinFET process (TSMC).

This card includes DirectX 12 and OpenGL support, as well as features like NVIDIA GPU Boost, G-Sync, VR Readiness, and Adaptive Vertical Sync. Interestingly, this card didn't come with a Founders Edition, and manufacturers' overclocking permissions were initially limited, a feature NVIDIA later opened.

Memory and memory bandwidth

This card features 8GB of GDDR5 video memory, running at speeds of up to 8 Gbps (2000 MHz) over a 256-bit memory interface. This provides memory bandwidth of up to 256 GB/s, which is significantly better than the GTX 1060 (192 GB/s) and nearly on par with the GTX 1080 (320 GB/s, GDDR5X). This wide memory system gives this card a major advantage in high-resolution textures and 1440p gaming.

Display Output and Connectivity

The GTX 1070 Ti features 3x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b, and 1x Dual-Link DVI-D outputs. The card supports output resolutions up to 8K@60Hz via two DisplayPort 1.3 connectors and up to 4096x2160@60Hz via a single HDMI port. The PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface makes it easily compatible with any modern motherboard.

Cooling and Build

The card comes in a dual- or triple-slot design, with the reference model measuring approximately 267mm long. Most variants feature triple-fan (like the Gigabyte WINDFORCE 3X with RGB Fusion lighting) or dual-fan cooling designs, which help maintain stable temperatures even under heavy gaming loads. A metal backplate is also available on several premium variants.

Things to keep in mind during installation

Ensure the card is properly seated in its PCIe x16 slot and the power connectors are connected (typically 6-pin + 8-pin, some models only 8-pin). The TDP is 180W, so the recommended PSU is 500-600W. Since this is an older card, download the driver from NVIDIA's legacy driver list.

Who is this graphics card for?

The GTX 1070 Ti is now only suitable for users who already own this card and want to use it for older AAA games, esports titles, or 1440p gaming setups. This card is no longer recommended for new purchases, as modern cards offer much better performance at a lower price and lower power draw. However, it remains an interesting option for vintage hardware collectors or those repurposing old builds.
